We're really enjoying getting to do DIY. After years of being at the whims of landlords, it is very satisfying to decide we don't want this door, or we want a curtain here, or perhaps this cupboard would be more useful in this bathroom and then just do it! It's also satisfying to learn new skills.
It's not all been fun. We've had three leaks so far (including an overflowing water tank while we were away over Christmas), and we've discovered one of the floors in one of the bedrooms-to-be needs repair before it's safe to walk on. And, in the cold snaps over winter, it was very cold (though the purchases of both a wool duvet and a long-wave infrared heater have been revolutionary!)
We're starting to find our people in Carmarthen: from the local queers at board game socials to social justice activists through LocalMotion, I'm feeling very excited to get to call this home. We're also aiming to start hosting a regular open house pot-luck soon (which we're considering calling "pawb i bawb", but other name suggestions are welcome!)
